Wheeler Winston Dixon
Wheeler Winston-Dixon is an american filmaker and horror theorist. He has published multiple theories in magazines such as film quarterly and post script. His most notable horror theory is the 'site of activity' theory. His 'site of activity' theory conveys the idea that a character is killed off within short time of the film starting. This means we never have the chance to get to know the character or understand why he is being victimised. This always evokes sympathy with in the viewer because the short time we see the 'site of activity' target we only see the innocent side to him where he is usually being murderd. This also means that the character is not viewed as a official character of the movie , and is merely a 'site of activity', and the activity being there death. The site of activity is also taken into other accounts and can sometimes be viewed as the site where the victim is murdered. within some films the 'site of activity' theory is very key as it all builds to the suspense and shock of the death.
We have taken this theory into our account and seen the things we can include in our teaser trailer by using the site of activity theory. As the genre is zombie we have a lot of options that could be considered as safe places in which zombies could still attempt to push there way in. In our account we will be including it within the large secluded warehouse/factory scene which is seen as perfectly safe area from the current apocalypse however it is a site of activity as it may be safe from the outside but there is still danger from the people within. |
An example of the site of activity theory is in the first scream (1996) where casey the victim is killed within her own home making her house the site of activity. With the fear of multiple phone calls coming through to her house casey still panics and fears for her life even though she is within the safety of her own home. Similar to what the theory states Casey the victim never gets a chance to be understood by the viewer as she is killed of within the opening sequence of the film therfore leaving the viewer wondering why she was victim to such a brutal murder.
